Tecno is continuing its push for accurate skin tone representation in smartphone cameras with the "100 Portraits of Becoming" initiative. Partnering with Brazilian artist Angélica Dass, the two-year project aims to photograph 100 individuals across five countries, starting in Nairobi, Kenya.

All portraits will be captured using the Tecno Camon 50 Ultra, which integrates the company's Universal Tone imaging technology. This technology, expanded last year to include 372 skin tone patches, is designed to accurately render diverse skin tones. Participants will be photographed in natural light without filters, with their personal stories about navigating societal shifts also being recorded.

The initiative seeks to move beyond mere technical accuracy in digital cameras, focusing instead on fostering recognition and allowing individuals to be seen authentically. The project will travel to Manila, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Brazil after its initial stop in Kenya. The collection of portraits and stories will be shared on a dedicated website, aiming to combat bias and stereotypes in digital representation.
