Samsung Galaxy S27 lineup to expand Privacy Display across all models

Samsung will bring its Privacy Display feature to all four Galaxy S27 models next year, marking a significant shift from the S26 Ultra's exclusive debut. The Samsung Galaxy S27 series expansion means even the base model will get privacy screen tech that limits viewing angles to prevent shoulder-surfing. This represents a notable change since Samsung typically reserves premium features for higher-tier models.

The move follows strong adoption of Privacy Display technology, with shipments growing from niche business devices to an estimated 21 million units this year. Samsung initially considered cheaper BOE panels for the vanilla S27 but opted for Samsung Display components instead. The feature uses specialized pixels that switch between narrow and wide viewing angles when activated.

Other manufacturers are racing to implement similar privacy features, with leaks suggesting Xiaomi, Honor, Oppo and vivo are developing comparable technology for their flagships. Foldable devices will eventually adopt these screens, though manufacturers still face technical hurdles. The hardware implementation creates trade-offs in resolution and brightness that affect power consumption.

Samsung's decision to democratize Privacy Display across its entire S27 lineup signals that privacy features are becoming mainstream rather than premium differentiators. This could pressure competitors to accelerate their own implementations while highlighting the ongoing tension between privacy and display performance.
