According to Apple's service website, the top layer of the iPhone Duo's foldable display can be replaced for $19.99 with active Apple Care coverage. The company's VP of hardware engineering confirmed the design allows for user replacement of the matte screen cover as it wears down. Apple Care subscribers also benefit from $29 cover display or back glass repairs and $99 inner display replacement.
Without Apple Care, Accidental Damage carries a $99 fee, while theft and loss protection costs $149. Samsung offers the first replacement free within 12 months for Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip devices, with subsequent replacements priced at $19.99. Apple acknowledges user questions about third-party films with privacy or glossy features, noting these remain to be determined once the device ships.
The company emphasizes durability but recognizes eventual layer replacement may be desired. Pricing for out-of-warranty replacements will be confirmed at launch, though Apple provides the option as a first in the foldable market.
