Xbox Project Helix Family of Next-Gen Consoles

Xbox is developing more than one next-generation console under Project Helix, CEO Asha Sharma revealed in a new interview with BBC News at gamescom 2026. Shortly after being named CEO of Xbox, Sharma announced Project Helix as the code name for the brand's next-generation console. She now indicates the company is working on a 'great family of devices' for Helix, suggesting multiple consoles rather than a single device.

Sharma didn't reveal specific details about the devices' development but promised more information soon. She reiterated that Helix will be able to play both console and PC games, though it remains unclear whether all devices in the lineup will support this capability. When asked about whether the next Xbox will be a discless device, Sharma declined to answer directly.

This follows Sony's recent announcement that the PlayStation will go full digital and stop making disc-based games by 2028. Xbox plans to ship alpha versions of the Helix console—or consoles—to developers starting next year.
