Xbox has revealed that alpha Helix dev kits will ship to developers by the end of 2027, confirming the next-generation console's 2027-2028 launch window. The announcement came during GDC 2026, where Xbox VP Jason Ronald provided details about Project Helix, the codename for Xbox's upcoming gaming console. This timeline aligns with recent rumors about the console's release schedule.

Ronald emphasized that Helix will play both Xbox console and PC games, though it remains unclear if it will function as a full console-PC hybrid similar to Valve's Steam Machine. AMD is collaborating with Xbox on new machine learning-powered technologies, including FSR Diamond, announced alongside the console details. The custom AMD SoC will leverage upcoming DirectX versions for enhanced ray tracing, performance, and efficiency.

The Helix will maintain Xbox's backwards compatibility tradition, supporting games from the last four console generations. Additionally, Xbox Mode launches in Windows 11 in April, offering a familiar Xbox experience on PCs. This feature builds upon the Full Screen Experience previously tested on the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally, potentially delivering performance improvements for gaming on Windows 11 systems.
