X is testing a new tool that lets users see if their posts have been shadowbanned. The feature, currently available to a small group of testers, appears via a new "under the hood" page in settings. Users can download data to find "visibility-limiting labels" affecting their posts.

X announced the feature alongside an update that open-sources more aspects of the ranking algorithm powering the "for you" timeline. X's VP of Product Keith Coleman called the changes "an unprecedented level of transparency into the X algorithm."

However, using the feature is complicated. The download provides aggregate statistics from the last month, not per-post details, and comes as a .json file that may be hard to parse. An example showed two posts hit with NSFW labels that hid them from non-followers and underage users.

The latest release gives insight into content X deems ineligible for recommendations, listing labels for NSFW, spam, violence, hateful conduct, and a "civic integrity" flag. Elon Musk recently said every line of code touching X would be open source by August, but the company continues to hold back some information to prevent system manipulation.
