WhatsApp is upgrading its two-step verification system to allow users to set stronger alphanumeric passwords instead of six-digit PINs. The new requirement mandates at least eight characters, including one number and one letter, with special characters permitted. This improves upon the 2017-era six-digit PIN system, which was vulnerable to guessing.

The feature remains optional but is strongly recommended, especially for users still using weak codes like '123456'. Additionally, WhatsApp now supports multiple passkeys across Android and iOS devices, manageable via Account > Passkeys in settings. The app is also enhancing spam call identification on Android by showing the country of origin and shared group chat indicators for unknown numbers, helping users detect potential scams.
