Verizon Fios announced a new 5Gbps plan, more than twice as fast as its previous 2Gbps flagship. The plan costs $105 per month in select locations, but new customers switching from another provider can get it for $90 per month with a 5-year price lock.

The 5Gbps speeds (around 625MB/s) enable downloading 100GB game patches in about 2.7 minutes and support multi-device households with VR, security cameras, and video calls. Verizon also offers upgrading Fios customers a three-year price lock at the regular rate.

While not the fastest overall—Ziply offers 50Gbps for $900/month—Verizon's plan competes well on value. Google Fiber's 8Gbps Edge plan costs $150, and its 3Gbps service is $100. AT&T's 5Gbps plan runs $135 monthly, or $95 for the first year for new customers.
