Valve is re-entering the living room with the Steam Machine, a home console sibling to the Steam Deck. Announced in November 2025, it's designed to compete in the console market. Details are still emerging, but the PC-console hybrid promises a unique gaming experience, alongside a new Steam Controller and Steam Frame VR headset, all set for release in 2026.

The Steam Machine boasts a semi-custom AMD Zen 4 CPU and RDNA3 GPU, with 16GB of DDR RAM and storage options up to 2TB. It's designed to run games from SteamOS, Valve's Linux-based operating system. This could mean a more powerful gaming experience than the aging Steam Deck, but it does have limitations with certain games.

Any game running on SteamOS will run on the Steam Machine, utilizing Steam's Proton compatibility layer for Windows games. However, a major hurdle remains: anti-cheat software support. Valve hopes the Steam Machine will encourage developers. While pricing hasn't been announced, it's expected to be competitive. The launch has been delayed to 2026 due to shortages.

With rising component costs, the Steam Machine likely won't be cheap. Valve has suggested the price will be comparable to a PC with similar specifications. The company is facing the same challenges as other PC makers. The Steam Machine's success hinges on its price point, game compatibility, and ability to attract gamers.
