Uber is rolling out a new safety feature for teen accounts that allows parents and guardians to view a live video feed from the driver's selfie camera during a trip. When a teen is riding, their designated guardian receives a push notification if the live feed is available. The driver may be prompted to mount their phone with a clear view of the back seat.

The parent or guardian can start watching with a tap, and both the teen and driver are notified. The feed ends when the trip does. Only a parent or guardian linked to the teen's account can access the stream.

No recordings are accessible to the teen, parent, or driver after the trip. Uber stores an encrypted recording, automatically deleted after 14 days unless a safety report is filed. In such cases, Uber retains the recording longer per its data retention policies.

The feature is being piloted in nine locations: Atlanta, Phoenix, Orlando, Raleigh-Durham, Portland, San Antonio, Cleveland, Rhode Island, and El Paso, with a nationwide US rollout planned in the coming weeks.
