Trump Mobile T1 Revealed: A Rebranded HTC with Minor Tweaks

iFixit dissected a Trump Mobile T1 unit acquired by NBC News and found it mirrors an HTC handset. The teardown shows only the battery differs, offering a slightly larger capacity and 30W charging instead of the HTC’s 60W. Cosmetic tweaks include a gold finish and altered camera and speaker layouts for users and tech watchers.

Internally, the phone uses a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip, 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and 512GB of storage, just like the U24 Pro. The main board comes from Micron, whereas the HTC version uses SK Hynix. The only other difference is the battery, sourced from the Philippines for the device at the US price point.

Trump Mobile claims the T1 is "made in the USA" and "American-proud design," yet iFixit finds the phone was assembled in a U.S. facility with just ten parts handled domestically. Most components come from China, and the battery is Philippine-made, meaning the device is effectively a rebranded HTC built on foreign supply chains for consumers.

Consumers buying the $499 T1 pay the same price as the U24 Pro but receive a phone that is largely identical to a Chinese model. The teardown underscores how branding can mask supply chain realities, reminding buyers that design claims do not guarantee domestic manufacturing or distinct performance for every consumer in today's market.
