TikTok has launched a new standalone app called PineDrama, offering serialized drama series in minute-long episodes. First reported by Business Insider, the app mirrors TikTok's vertical video feed but replaces dance clips with scripted 'micro-dramas.' The content features soap opera-style plots and cliffhangers designed to keep viewers scrolling.

This move follows TikTok's earlier integration of a 'Minis' section within its main app. The micro-drama format, popularized by apps like DramaBox and ReelShort, recalls the short-lived Quibi, which shut down after eight months despite its 10-minute episodes. PineDrama currently offers all content for free with no ads, unlike some competitors.

The app includes standard features like a Discover tab, favorites, and real-time reactions to boost engagement. TikTok's strategy aims to capture more of the shrinking attention span market. The key question is whether this standalone experiment will find a sustainable audience or follow Quibi's path.
