Switch from ChatGPT to Claude: Import Your Data

Moving from ChatGPT to Claude doesn't require starting from scratch. Anthropic's Claude offers an "Import Memory" feature, allowing users to transfer saved context from other chatbots. This process involves a simple copy-and-paste operation between the two platforms.

To initiate the transfer, users first enable memory settings in Claude and then click "Start Import." Claude provides a prompt that needs to be copied. Next, in ChatGPT, users ensure "Enable Memory" is active and optionally select "Thinking" mode for a more comprehensive summary. The copied prompt is then pasted into ChatGPT, and the resulting summary is copied.

Finally, this summary is pasted back into Claude's import field. Anthropic notes that the import process can take up to 24 hours to complete. Users can verify the imported context in Claude's Memory settings. This feature is also compatible with other AI providers like Gemini, following a similar import procedure.
