Spotify Issues AI Persona Labels for Fake Artists

Spotify is tackling the surge of AI‑generated music by announcing that it will label artist accounts that are not real people. The new AI Persona badge will appear on profiles that present themselves as human while actually being generative AI creations. Artists can declare themselves as AI Personas starting August 11 via the Spotify for Artists portal. The company will also apply a Likely AI Persona badge to accounts it believes are not genuine, using a blend of human checks and AI‑powered reviews. If the badge is applied, the account owner receives a notification and can appeal the decision if the tag was added mistakenly.

The label will first appear in mid‑September, initially on mobile in an artist’s profile, in search results, and on playlist track rows. By default, content from AI Personas will be excluded from Spotify’s personalized recommendation tools. While Spotify expands its toolkit to help listeners identify generative AI content, it continues to embed various AI features in its service.

This move aims to bring transparency to music profiles and protect artists and listeners alike from deceptive AI‑generated content.
