SpaceX secured a $4.16 billion contract from the Space Force to build satellites for President Trump's Golden Dome missile defense system. The company will create a constellation of satellites by 2028 to track foreign aircraft and missiles using advanced space-based sensors.

The Golden Dome project, officially called "Space-Based Airborne Moving Target Indicator," represents a massive $1.2 trillion investment over 20 years. Space Force plans to use secure communications and resilient ground processing to establish global tracking capabilities from orbit.

This latest award adds to SpaceX's growing defense portfolio, including a $2 billion contract from earlier this week and a previous $70 million Starshield contract. These deals cement the company's role in military space infrastructure beyond its commercial satellite operations.

The contracts reflect the Space Force's push to rapidly deploy space-based defense systems, leveraging SpaceX's proven satellite technology and launch capabilities. Musk's company now handles both tracking and communications elements of the ambitious missile shield project.
