Konami and Screen Burn Interactive are reviving the Silent Hill franchise with Townfall, a first-person horror experience set in 1990s Scotland. The game takes place in St. Amelia, a fictional town constructed from photos and maps of real Scottish villages, complete with period-authentic phone boxes and nostalgic kitchen interiors.

Screen Burn Interactive has gone to extraordinary lengths for authenticity, literally running game footage through actual CRT monitors to capture genuine analog static. This attention to detail extends to the core gameplay mechanics, where protagonist Simon Ordell wields a portable TV instead of traditional radio equipment. The device serves multiple purposes: delivering narrative beats, providing puzzle clues, and even offering X-ray vision to detect monsters through walls.

The shift to first-person perspective marks a significant departure for the series. Players must carefully control Simon's peeking mechanic using the right bumper and analog sticks to avoid detection. The developers have stripped away typical video game UI conventions, opting for immersive solutions like a foldable paper map that Simon annotates with red pen.

Survival remains the focus, with Simon's attached IV cannula providing one revival chance when downed. Classic Silent Hill elements persist, including improvised weapons like planks for monster encounters. Silent Hill Townfall launches September 24, 2026 for PS5 and PC, continuing the franchise's recent resurgence with its most atmospheric entry yet.
