Shokz OpenDots 2: Better Bass in Clip-On Design

Shokz has expanded its clip-on earbud lineup with the OpenDots 2 flagship model, targeting improved bass response and volume that has historically been weak in open-ear designs. The new Bassphere 2.0 technology uses dual 11.8mm drivers in a spherical arrangement that Shokz claims matches the output of a single 16mm driver. The redesigned diaphragm reduces distortion by 70%, while MirrorPitch technology angles sound toward the ear rather than outward, boosting bass and volume.

The OpenDots 2 also includes upgraded Dolby Audio support and enhanced call quality with a bone conduction mic that uses AI to differentiate voice from background noise. Priced at $200, the flagship model offers 10 hours of battery life with wireless charging case support. For consumers seeking a more accessible option, Shokz offers the OpenDots Air at $130, featuring the older Bassphere 1.0 technology and slightly reduced battery life.

Both models maintain the clip-on form factor popularized by Bose two years ago, with the OpenDots Air weighing just 6.3g per earbud versus 6.4g for the flagship. The new earbuds represent Shokz's continued investment in open-ear technology, addressing common limitations while maintaining the convenience that allows users to stay aware of their surroundings.
