Murder mystery meets farming in Grave Seasons release

Indie studio Perfect Garbage is set to drop Grave Seasons on August 14 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Switch and PC. The title mixes classic farming‑sim chores—clearing land, planting seeds, tending livestock—with a serial‑killer narrative that erupts after the mayor’s brutal murder. Players inherit a dilapidated homestead and must rebuild it while probing a growing mystery for casual and hardcore players alike.

Early days involve routine tasks—tilling soil, harvesting carrots, upgrading tools—until the mayor’s corpse is discovered in the town square. Unlike static whodunits, Grave Seasons offers dozens of handcrafted storylines, each ending with a different villager as the culprit. Romancing a character can backfire, turning a love interest into the murderer, adding real stakes to social bonds and keeps the tension high.

The game’s pixel aesthetic tones down gore, yet on‑screen killings become increasingly graphic if players fail to close in on the killer. Tools like shovels and crowbars let you break into homes, but getting caught destroys friendships and can even trigger a villager’s death. By marrying farming loops with murder‑mystery mechanics, Grave Seasons could broaden the appeal of both genres in the crowded indie market.
