Meta Launches New Free Facebook Verified Badge

In the face of AI content and slop, Meta hopes a new Facebook Verified program will help human users interact with other humans. Based on a facial recognition selfie checked against existing profile pictures, the company says the process will only take a few minutes.

To qualify, users must be over 18 and in good standing with community standards. Once passed, the badge appears across Marketplace and Dating. Unlike Meta Verified, this identity confirmation is entirely free and is not an endorsement of trustworthiness.

The feature addresses scammers using generative AI to create fake profiles with realistic images. It is part of several announcements, including a push into immersive video and a reimagined full-screen experience. This tool will be gradually rolled out starting Monday, beginning in select markets with plans to expand globally.
