Logos Space Services, a potential competitor to Starlink, has received FCC clearance to deploy over 4,000 broadband satellites. The company, founded by former NASA and Google executive Milo Medin, aims to launch its initial satellites by 2027. This ambitious project seeks to provide high-speed internet globally, targeting both commercial and government clients.

This approval marks a significant step in challenging SpaceX's dominance in the satellite internet market. The FCC requires Logos to launch half of its approved satellites within seven years. While the satellite broadband sector is expanding rapidly, Starlink currently leads with approximately 9,600 satellites in orbit, out of a total of 14,000 functioning satellites.

Logos has been raising capital since 2023 to fund this large-scale project. The growing demand for satellite internet services creates opportunities for new players. SpaceX recently requested permission to deploy even more satellites. The European Space Agency anticipates the number of satellites in orbit will reach 100,000 by the end of the decade.
