Google is expanding its retail presence with Google Store Omotesando, scheduled to open this summer in Tokyo. The location marks the company's first flagship retail store outside the United States. Visitors will find Google Pixel smartphones, Nest products, Fitbit devices, and accessories available for purchase, along with hands-on experiences with Google's AI technologies and services.

The Tokyo store will feature support services similar to Apple's Genius Bar, with staff performing on-site Google Pixel repairs, providing setup assistance, and troubleshooting technical issues. Google's decision to open a flagship store in Japan mirrors its historical strategy of establishing its first international office in the country. The company currently operates store-within-a-shop locations at Best Buy stores in Canada.

Google follows other tech giants in physical retail expansion, though with a more measured approach compared to Microsoft's ambitious retail rollout in the late 2000s. Microsoft opened numerous stores worldwide but shuttered most during the pandemic. The Google Store Omotesando represents a strategic push to strengthen its brand presence in key international markets through direct consumer engagement.
