Google has added Selfie video as a new login option for Google accounts, providing another way to use facial recognition for identity verification. This joins existing face unlock and passkey biometric methods.

To set it up, users visit the My Account page, navigate to Security & sign-in, and select Selfie video under How you sign in to Google. The process requires removing glasses or masks and avoiding busy backgrounds. Google prompts head movements during recording to prevent deepfake impersonation attempts.

The company states it encrypts the selfie video and uses it solely for sign-in comparison. Users can delete their video anytime from the Video Verification page. However, the feature is currently unavailable for Workspace accounts, child accounts, and those enrolled in the Advanced Protection Program.
