Google Adds AI Ad Disclosure Tools

Google is introducing new transparency features for AI-generated advertisements across its platforms. Advertisers using Google's internal AI tools will have disclosures automatically added to their ads via the 'How this ad was made' section in My Ad Center. This information will be visible on ads across Google Search, YouTube, and Discover globally.

For ads created with third-party AI tools, brands can voluntarily indicate generative AI use through a control within My Ad Center. In certain regions, enabling this toggle might result in an on-ad label indicating AI involvement, depending on local regulations. Google states the goal is to provide users with a clearer understanding of the ads they encounter and help advertisers adapt to evolving industry standards.

This move addresses growing concerns about the opacity of AI-generated content in advertising. By offering these disclosure mechanisms, Google aims to build user trust and establish a framework for responsible AI advertising practices, though the opt-in nature for third-party tools suggests a potentially uneven implementation.
