Gmail E2EE Now Available for Enterprise Mobile Users

Google has rolled out end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for Gmail on Android and iOS to enterprise users, expanding its client-side encryption offering. The feature allows eligible Workspace users to compose and read encrypted emails directly within the Gmail app without needing additional applications or portals.

This mobile E2EE functionality builds on Google's earlier introduction of web-based encryption for Gmail, which launched over a year ago. Encrypted messages sent to recipients using the Gmail app appear in their inbox like standard email threads, while non-app users can still securely read and reply through their browser regardless of their email provider.

Enterprise users must enable Android and iOS clients in the CSE admin interface and require either Assured Controls or Assured Controls Plus add-ons for access. When composing emails, users click the lock icon and select additional encryption before sending, with attachments functioning normally. The rollout is immediate for Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains, though the feature remains exclusive to enterprise customers rather than the millions of personal Gmail users.
