Gemini Personal Intelligence Comes to Android Auto

Google has begun rolling out Personal Intelligence, a Gemini feature that lets the chatbot pull information from your other Google apps to generate more personalized responses, to Android Auto users. The feature first debuted at the start of the year and later expanded to free accounts in March, after previously being limited to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.

Google says the update improves Gemini's reasoning capabilities in cars and allows the assistant to deliver more specific details tied to your questions and prompts. For example, while driving to the airport, drivers could ask "what's my flight gate?" or "is my flight on time?" and get answers without pulling over to check a confirmation email, provided their Gmail account is linked.

The company also says Personal Intelligence makes conversations with Gemini more natural. Drivers can say "take me to my doctor's appointment" instead of speaking a specific address. Recommendations are improved as well: in a new city, a user can ask for dinner spots along their route, and Gemini will factor in preferences and restrictions, such as being vegetarian.

Enabling Personal Intelligence remains optional, and users can turn it off at any time or control which apps Gemini can access. The rollout to Android Auto begins globally today, with the exception of users in Switzerland, the European Economic Area, the UK and Nigeria. In the coming months, Google plans to bring the feature to cars with Google built-in.
