Fi Ultra Uses Satellite for All‑US Dog Tracking

Fi has launched the Fi Ultra, a dog‑tracking collar that leans on T‑Mobile's T‑Satellite network, powered by Starlink, to deliver real‑time GPS data even when cadena signals vanish. The system switches automatically from LTE to satellite, letting owners monitor pets anywhere in the United States, from city streets to remote backcountry. The device records continuous location and triggers “Lost Mode” in the Fi app, pulling in nearby Fi users through the “Search Party” feature.

Battery life is the main trade‑off. While older Fi Series 3+ units can run two weeks to three months on a single charge, the Ultra lasts only about two days. Owners who hike or climb will need to recharge more often, but the extended range may justify the effort.

Pricing starts at $199 for the tracker, a $20 activation fee, and a $189/year subscription. Existing Fi Series 3+ or Mini members can acquire the Ultra for $299 and add it to their current plan. The collar also includes Fi’s “callback” training system, which uses sounds and vibrations to guide dogs back home.

Overall, the Ultra extends coverage into satellite‑enabled zones, offering peace of mind for outdoor enthusiasts at the cost of a shorter battery life witnessing a broader shift toward satellite‑backed IoT devices that prioritize connectivity over endurance.
