Xbox shared a lengthy gameplay video for the Fable reboot, highlighting the studio’s new Living Population system. Developed by Playground Games, the feature populates the world with over 1,000 fully voiced NPCs, each hand‑crafted with distinct personalities and daily routines. The clip also demonstrates dynamic weather syncing with NPC schedules.

Players can befriend, employ, romance or antagonize any of the thousands, and the branching dialogue reacts accordingly. Saving a talking pig, buying a pub, or paying the town crier for a flattering rumor all shift reputation in specific settlements. Hiring an NPC as a shopkeeper unlocks inventory and passive income. Criminal deeds lower standing, while positive deeds raise it, directly influencing quests and NPC behavior.

After several delays, February 23 marks the launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC. The system promises a more immersive, consequence‑driven experience that could set a new standard for open‑world RPGs. Critics will watch how the AI handles emergent storytelling across diverse player choices.
