Electronic Arts (EA) has announced it will complete its $55 billion buyout and become private on August 4, 2026, according to an 8‑K filing. The deal, the largest leveraged buyout in gaming history, was agreed with the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF), Silver Lake and Affinity Partners. All regulatory approvals have been secured, allowing the merger to close as scheduled.

CEO Andrew Wilson will remain at the helm, and the company’s Redwood City headquarters will stay unchanged. The move ends EA’s 35‑year run as a publicly traded firm. Over recent years the publisher has faced layoffs, studio closures, and canceled titles, yet it has also enjoyed recent successes such as Battlefield 6, which launched last October to strong sales.

With annual revenue of $7.5 billion and franchises like EA Sports, The Sims and Madden NFL, EA remains one of the largest gaming companies worldwide. The transition to private ownership may give the company more flexibility to adapt to a rapidly evolving industry.
