Electronic Arts Returns to Private Ownership

Electronic Arts (EA) has officially transitioned back to private ownership after nearly 36 years as a public company. This significant shift occurred following an announcement in September 2025, detailing EA's return to private status under a consortium led by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), alongside Silver Lake and Affinity Partners.

This private undertaking is valued at approximately $55 billion, with Saudi Arabia's PIF playing a primary role. The change means that strategic decisions will now be made by the consortium, rather than public market investors. This will likely influence how company funds are allocated and impact individual game development.

Andrew Wilson, EA's Chairman and CEO, has expressed optimism about this new chapter. He stated that the company is "entering this next chapter from a position of strength with partners who share our vision and ambition." Wilson further committed to continued bold investment in future titles and innovation, aiming to enhance experiences for EA's vast player base.
