Doom Runs on MS Paint

The iconic FPS Doom has been made to run on Microsoft Paint, a project spearheaded by Mark Russinovich, the CTO of Microsoft Azure. "Doom Paint" utilizes MS Paint as the display for the game, with each frame being placed on the Windows clipboard and pasted into Paint's canvas as a document edit. This allows the original shareware release of Doom to be played within MS Paint, achieving up to 35 FPS, a respectable frame rate for 1990s PC games.

The GitHub repository for Doom Paint includes resources and instructions for users to replicate the setup. Notably, the project also incorporates sound and music. Doom's legendary efficient programming has led to its porting on numerous unintended platforms since its 1993 release, including devices like lawnmowers and printers, and even, theoretically, gut bacteria, though at an extremely slow pace.
