Does Using Your Phone While Charging Damage Battery?

Using your smartphone while it is charging will not inherently damage your battery life. While you might notice a slower charging speed, modern devices utilize advanced heat dissipation and bypass charging technology to manage power.

Bypass charging, a feature seen in devices like the Sony Xperia 1 II, allows the phone to shift resources from recharging to running apps. This protects the battery from excessive heat during intensive tasks like gaming. However, Apple iPhones do not yet support this specific feature.

To maintain optimal battery health, it is best to plug in your device when it is between 20 and 80 percent rather than letting it drain completely. While using your phone for quick tasks is fine, avoid intensive activities if the device becomes excessively hot. Additionally, leaving your phone plugged in overnight is safe, as modern phones include protections to prevent overcharging.
