Anthropic has released a major update to Claude's memory feature, allowing the AI to access and carry over memories across both the Claude chatbot and Claude Cowork, its computer use agent. This means users need to repeat themselves less often when using Cowork, as Claude can now use context from previous chats.

Anthropic is also giving users more control over what Claude saves. Users can now see memories organized by topic and edit specifics from settings. A new option, "include sensitive topics in memory," lets Claude store personal or sensitive subject matter like health, politics, or gender identity, but it won't save social security numbers, criminal history, or immigration status.

The update builds on a recent upgrade to the Claude for Chrome extension, which made Cowork available through the plugin. Memory is enabled by default for all Free, Pro, and Max accounts. Mobile users should update the Claude Android or iOS app to see the new features.
