ByteDance Arrangement with the Motion Picture Association (MPA) aims to curb copyright infringement by AI models used across TikTok, CapCut and other platforms.

The memorandum, signed in early 2024, establishes a shared framework for protecting the intellectual property of MPA members<title>Drama: Disney, Paramount, Warner Bros. Discovery</title> and requires ByteDance to enforce safeguards against unauthorized use of copyrighted material. The deal follows a February cease‑and‑desist letter from the MPA, accusing ByteDance of using protected content without permission. ByteDance responded by pledging stronger guardrails and temporarily suspending the rollout of Seedance 2.0, while the MPA’s CEO, Charles Rivkin, praised the “constructive engagement” and noted that the company has implemented meaningful guardrails.

The agreement covers all ByteDance AI models, including those on TikAve, TikTok USDS Joint Venture, and the upcoming Seedream 5.0 Pro and Seedance 2.5 releases, which the MPA claims demonstrate continued advances in IP protection. Hollywood studios are also fighting a lawsuit against Midjourney for alleged infringement, underscoring the broader industry push for tighter AI‑related IP safeguards.
