If you're ignoring iPhone focus modes, you're missing out on Apple's best productivity tool. Since 2021, iPhone's Do Not Disturb evolved into Focus modes, letting you choose which alerts arrive in different situations instead of silencing everything. You can limit pings to calls from contacts while driving or suppress work app notifications while off disputes. The result is fewer interruptions and a cleaner device.

To start, open Settings → Focus on your iPhone. Pick a default mode such as Personal, Sleep, or Work, then tap the People and Apps panels. Select Allow or Silence notifications, add specific contacts or apps, and toggle Allow Calls From and Allow Repeated Calls as needed. Time Sensitive Notifications can be enabled for urgent alerts.

Add a custom mode by tapping the plus icon. Built‑in modes like Driving, Fitness, Gaming, Mindfulness, and Sleep activate automatically based on your activity or sleep schedule. You can also create a ro Calls‑Only mode that lets all calls through while muting everything else. Edit the icon, color, or delete any mode you no longer use.

Share Across Devices keeps Focus status synchronized across your Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac, while Focus Status lets contacts know you're in a mode. Emergency Bypass lets selected contacts bypass silence, but use it sparingly. Adjust these settings in Contacts or the Focus page.
