Apple TV 4K price hike: Still worth it?

The latest Apple TV 4K, a four-year-old product, has seen a significant price increase, jumping from $129 to $199 for the 64GB model and $249 for the 128GB model. This price hike raises questions about its value, especially considering its age.

Despite its age, the Apple TV 4K retains its strengths, including support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, a powerful A15 Bionic chip for smooth navigation, and seamless integration with Apple's ecosystem for iPhone users. Its user experience is often praised as superior to built-in smart TV interfaces.

However, at its new price point, alternatives offer better value. The Google TV Streamer, at $99, provides similar 4K/60fps output and HDR/audio support, while the Amazon Fire TV Cube ($140) and Fire TV Stick 4K Max ($60) also present compelling, more affordable options with their own unique features. Even devices like Roku Ultra 2024 ($100) and the NVIDIA Shield TV Pro are now cost-competitive or more feature-rich for certain users. Ultimately, while the Apple TV 4K offers a premium experience, especially for existing Apple users, the recent price increase makes it a significantly less compelling value proposition compared to many competitors.
