Apple is reportedly exploring 3D printing aluminum for future iPhones and Apple Watches, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. This manufacturing innovation could make production more efficient while potentially lowering costs for consumers. The company has already successfully used 3D-printed titanium in recent products, including the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Series 11, which featured 100% recycled materials.

This isn't Apple's first venture into 3D printing technology. The iPhone Air recently debuted with a titanium USB-C port that was touted as thinner, stronger, and more environmentally friendly. The company's new $599 MacBook Neo also introduced aluminum-saving manufacturing processes, demonstrating Apple's commitment to cost-effective and sustainable production methods.

While Apple is currently only investigating 3D-printed aluminum, the technology could eventually lead to cheaper manufacturing processes and potentially lower starting prices for iPhones. Gurman also noted that Apple plans to refresh its iMac color palette later this year, following the colorful MacBook Neo's launch. This manufacturing evolution represents Apple's ongoing effort to balance innovation, sustainability, and affordability in its product lineup.
