Anthropic Tightens Integration Between Claude Design and Claude Code

Anthropic has released a major update to Claude Design, its design assistant tool that launched in preview two months ago. The update brings deeper integration with Claude Code, the company's coding agent, allowing designers to work directly from existing codebases and seamlessly hand off completed designs for implementation.

Claude Design can now generate assets that incorporate elements already present in users' front-facing products, eliminating the need to provide screenshots or start from scratch. Organizations get a new admin role for approving and locking down edits, while individual users can access the tool via claude.ai/design or through a desktop sidebar shortcut. The image editor also received refinements for more precise element positioning.

The integration extends to import capabilities, with a more flexible tool that builds entire design systems from GitHub repositories and raw files. According to Anthropic, Claude now checks output against existing design systems and makes corrections before users see results, improving both accuracy and token efficiency.

Despite usage limits being a recent controversy following a lawsuit from a Washington DC resident over allegedly misleading Max plan descriptions, Anthropic reports over one million users tried Claude Design in its first week. The shared usage limits across products may reduce how often most users hit restrictions, though the company faces ongoing scrutiny about its subscription transparency.
