Alexa+ Adds 'Sassy' Mode with Censored Swearing

Amazon has introduced a new 'sassy' personality mode for Alexa+ that allows adult users to hear censored profanity and sarcastic responses. The company describes this option as combining 'unfiltered personality' with 'razor-sharp wit' and 'occasional censored profanity.' The feature won't activate if there's an Amazon Kids profile enabled on the account.

To access the sassy mode, users must complete additional security checks including face scans. Amazon warns that this personality style may contain 'mature subject matter.' Testing revealed the AI would say mild words like 'damn' and 'hell' but wouldn't produce more explicit content, suggesting some form of bleeping or substitution is in place.

This marks the latest personality addition to Alexa+, joining existing options like sweet, brief, and chill (which resembles a surfer archetype). While the sassy mode represents a shift toward more natural conversation, Amazon maintains restrictions against hate speech, illegal activities, personal attacks, and harmful content. The feature positions Alexa+ as more conversational than its predecessor, though many users still primarily employ it for basic functions like alarms and weather updates.
