Alaska's House of Representatives unanimously passed HB47, a sweeping bill that would impose strict limits on minors' social media use while also banning AI-generated child sexual abuse material. The legislation originally targeted harmful deepfakes but expanded to include social media restrictions like a 10:30 PM to 6:30 AM curfew and bans on addictive design features.

Lawmakers added amendments requiring age verification and parental consent for minors, following models from other states including Utah. The bill passed with 39 votes in favor and zero against, though some representatives expressed concerns about implementing such broad rules without first consulting social media companies.

The bill now moves to the Alaska State Senate, which has already introduced a companion bill, and ultimately to the governor's desk. Alaska joins a growing list of states attempting to regulate youth social media access, though similar efforts in Utah faced legal challenges with a preliminary injunction blocking enforcement.
