Tata iPhone Plant Cyberattack Exposes Apple and Tesla Data

A cyberattack on one of Tata's iPhone manufacturing facilities in India has resulted in hackers claiming to steal over 630GB of confidential data from both Apple and Tesla. The breach, attributed to the extortion group World Leaks, allegedly includes sensitive manufacturing documents and employee information. Tata Electronics confirmed the incident occurred several weeks ago but stated operations remain unaffected.

The stolen data reportedly contains 33 files and folders related to Hosur, Tamil Nadu, though it's unclear if this refers to the same facility recently investigated for water contamination. Among the allegedly compromised materials are files named 'com.apple.factorydata' and Apple documents detailing material specifications, plus a 52-page quality inspection standard for iPhone circuit boards.

Tesla-related data claims include drawings for the Highland Model 3 revision and manufacturing assembly documents from May 2025, along with Model Y SUV component references. Security researchers found the material on dark web forums, though authenticity hasn't been verified. World Leaks previously targeted Nike in a January 2026 extortion attempt.

This incident follows a similar May 2026 breach at a Foxconn facility in the US, where hackers initially released verified Apple documentation. Neither Apple nor Tata have confirmed whether the stolen data is legitimate, and both companies have declined to comment on potential ransomware involvement.
