Apple documents surface on dark web after Tata breach

Tata Electronics, an Indian manufacturing partner for Apple, disclosed a cyber intrusion that led to confidential Apple documents appearing on the dark web. Researchers said ransom group World Leaks posted over 200,000 files belonging to Apple and Tesla. Tata said its response protocols were activated immediately and operations remain unaffected. The incident highlights the vulnerability of third‑party ecosystems.

Apple has not issued a comment, but a source told Reuters the company is conducting a full forensic analysis. Leaked material reportedly includes component design specs, a 52‑page sheet with Apple’s markings detailing iPhone circuit‑board inspection standards, email archives and employee passport scans. Analysts warn the leak could spur counterfeit hardware and IP theft. The files have been accessible on the dark web since at least June 10.

The breach underscores growing supply‑chain risk for tech firms shifting production out of China. Tata, now an Apple supplier, also faces a health probe over alleged farmland contamination near one of its iPhone parts plants. Regulators will likely examine compliance as the firm faces cyber and environmental issues.
