RAM shortages are reportedly hindering the assembly of Apple's upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and a folding iPhone, due to supply issues affecting the new A20 Pro processor. This processor, manufactured using TSMC's N2 node, integrates RAM via Wafer-Level Multi-Chip Module (WLMCM) technology, making post-packaging additions impossible.

Analyst Tim Culpan notes that A20 Pro yields are good, but unfinished chips are awaiting RAM. Approximately $1 billion in A20 chips are reportedly held up at Foxconn and BYD. While initial launch day orders are expected to be fulfilled, delivery times may lengthen.

This situation is exacerbated by a global RAM supply crunch, with suppliers prioritizing more profitable server farms. Apple's attempt to source less expensive RAM from CXMT has been met with governmental concern. The prolonged shortage is expected to drive up prices across various electronic devices, including vehicles, and could influence future product release strategies.
