Old iPhones Still Reign in 2026 IPPA Winners

The 2026 iPhone Photography Awards winners have been revealed, showcasing stunning images captured with everything from the latest iPhone 15 Pro to surprisingly aged models like the iPhone 8 Plus. Entries poured in from over 140 countries, with four main winners announced across categories from Grand Prix to Bronze.

Robyn Jenson took the top prize using an iPhone 15 Pro to photograph an erupting volcano, while Gellert Gombai's grayscale children's portrait earned Gold on an iPhone X. Other winners included Catherine Wang's vibrant melon shot on an iPhone 16 Pro Max and Barry Mayes' abstract victory with an iPhone 8 Plus, a device released in 2017.

The prevalence of older iPhones among winners suggests Apple's recent camera upgrades may be incremental rather than revolutionary. Diego Schutt's honorable mention came from an iPhone 7 Plus, and entries from iPhone 6s and 6 Plus also appeared. While newer models dominate category wins, the competition highlights how older iPhones still deliver professional-quality photos.

These results quietly challenge assumptions about smartphone camera progression, proving that iPhone 8 Plus-era technology remains more than capable of capturing award-winning imagery.
