New Siri Remote Hinted in macOS Beta Code

A new Siri Remote may be in development, though major changes aren't expected.

Code found within the macOS Tahoe beta references an unreleased device labeled "ATVRemote1,5," suggesting Apple is working on a new Siri Remote. This isn't the first mention of an updated remote; it's anticipated to launch alongside the next-generation Apple TV.

However, significant redesigns are unlikely. The update could be minor, such as a slight design tweak. Apple has previously released multiple versions of the Siri Remote, including the A2854 (3rd gen), A2540 (2nd gen), A1962 (1st gen), and A1513 (original), each with incremental changes. The most notable shift was the move to a thicker, silver aluminum body between the first and second generations.

Apple may also be updating the Siri Remote to complement its rumored home automation device, the Home Hub, which balances features between a HomePod and iPad. A redesigned remote could potentially control the Home Hub, similar to how earlier remotes worked with devices like the G5 iMac or original Mac mini for Front Row.
