New ChatGPT version with 'Think' button

OpenAI's latest upgrade, GPT-5.6 Sol, aims to improve ChatGPT's responses by being more succinct and reducing "confident wrong answers." While specific integrations with Apple's Siri may change, the Mac and iOS apps will see new features and performance enhancements.

The new version reportedly offers "more focused answers, adapts its level of detail to the question, avoids unnecessary formatting, and offers a helpful correction when simply agreeing wouldn't be useful." A notable addition is a "Think" button, which functions as a compute slider. This allows users to choose between a faster, less detailed response (lower compute) or a longer, more detailed one (higher compute), similar to how Siri AI operates.

OpenAI also claims GPT-5.6 Sol will provide "more reliable facts." This addresses user concerns about AI "hallucinations." Free users will also default to GPT-5.6 Luna and gain access to the "Think" button for more complex questions. The company's strategy of offering powerful AI for free is contrasted with its need for revenue, potentially facing financial challenges by 2028.
