Meta's Muse Code: New macOS AI coding agent

Meta has launched Muse Code, a new AI coding tool for macOS that operates through the Terminal, differentiating itself from existing agents like Claude Code and ChatGPT Codex which often have app interfaces.

Muse Code is designed to handle complex software engineering tasks across large code repositories. It can plan changes, write code, and validate results by coordinating multiple persistent subagents. Installation is achieved via a single command in the macOS Terminal.

This tool is not free; users begin on Meta's contributor tier with a pay-as-you-go model charging $1.25 per million input tokens and $4.25 per million output tokens. The release of Muse Code coincides with Muse Spark 1.2, an updated model trained with coding assistance in mind.

Meta's entry into the AI coding agent market with Muse Code, which also offers a new revenue stream, will be interesting to observe. However, its Terminal-based interface and Meta's data privacy history may present challenges for some developers.
