iPhone Users Stick With Apple, Android Switchers Decline

Recent data indicates a strong retention rate for Apple's iPhone, with 87% of U.S. iPhone buyers in the March 2026 quarter upgrading from a previous iPhone. This figure, representing the highest in three years, shows Apple's customer base remains largely stable against competition from Google and other Android manufacturers.

Conversely, the percentage of buyers switching from Android to iPhone has slightly declined, standing at 12% in the March 2026 quarter, down from 14% in 2025 and 13% in 2024. The remaining 1% of buyers came from basic phones or were first-time smartphone purchasers.

These trends suggest that most smartphone users have settled on a platform and are less likely to switch. While Apple still attracts Android users, its primary growth opportunity lies in encouraging existing iPhone owners to upgrade to newer models. The high retention rate highlights the ease of staying within the Apple ecosystem due to familiarity with iOS, compatible accessories, and integrated services, making it a straightforward choice for upgrades.
