Ahead of Apple's iPhone 18 Pro unveiling, reports indicate that the Dynamic Island is shrinking yet becoming more functional. The reduced design will allow users to display three ongoing Live Activities, up from the current limit of two. While Apple has reduced the physical size of the feature, Bloomberg claims they are adding new functionality to compensate.

Live Activities, first introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022, provide at-a-glance information such as flight details, sports scores, and ride-share arrival times. The Dynamic Island originally utilized the cutout necessary for Face ID, expanding to display icons or text. As Apple works toward removing the cutout entirely by placing Face ID sensors under the display, Live Activities are expected to remain a core feature.

Apple is set to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro during its September 9, 2026 event.
