Samsung's Galaxy S26 Ultra launched Wednesday, directly challenging Apple's iPhone 17 Pro Max in the premium smartphone arena. Both flagships boast 6.9-inch displays and similar footprints, but differ significantly in pricing, cameras, and design choices.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra starts at $1,299 versus the iPhone's $1,199 base price. Samsung's device is slightly thinner at 0.31 inches and lighter at 7.55 ounces compared to Apple's 0.34-inch, 8.22-ounce aluminum-framed phone. Both manufacturers switched from titanium to aluminum for 2025 models.

Camera systems highlight the key differences: Samsung packs five rear lenses including a 200MP main sensor and dual telephoto options with 3x and 5x optical zoom, plus 100x digital zoom. Apple counters with three 48MP Fusion cameras offering 2x and 8x optical-quality zoom via cropping. The Ultra supports 8K video recording while the iPhone tops out at 4K. Both share 3,000-nit peak brightness and 120Hz adaptive refresh rates, though Samsung's display offers slightly higher resolution at 498ppi versus Apple's 460ppi.
