Apple is reportedly preparing an update to its compact smart speaker, the HomePod mini. While the exterior design is expected to remain largely the same as the original model released in 2020, internal upgrades are anticipated.

Key changes are rumored to include a second-generation U1 ultra-wideband chip for improved device hand-off and potentially new presence-sensing capabilities. Apple may also incorporate its N1 networking chip, supporting Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Internally, the speaker is likely to receive a new S-series System-in-Package (SIP), possibly the S9 or S10, which could enable Apple Intelligence and advanced Siri AI features for more accurate and personalized interactions.

Audio quality may also see improvements through enhanced processing. The update has reportedly been in development for some time, with a release potentially coinciding with other smart home device announcements from Apple.
